  • Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, children who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Children with behaviour problems often become very respectful and calm.

  • Yes! In fact, Taekwondo is kind of a beacon of light for children who just don't fit into team sports. Children who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that Taekwondo is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars.

  • Absolutely. Children with low self-esteem often come out of their shells. As their skill level increases, they feel more and more confident. Other children look up to them, just as they look up to other children who are ahead of them. It builds a sense of confidence, pride, and teamwork.

  • The time it takes to become proficient varies upon each persons abilities and conditioning level. In most cases one can feel fairly confident in defence situations in about 6 months. Age is another factor that plays into the learning process. Very young children cannot be expected to progress at the same rate teenagers or adults do. The best part of Tae Kwon Do is that everyone is treated as an individual and trained according to their learning style and speed.

  • This question too has different answers for different people. It depends on the amount of time and dedication that you have to put into the art. Some people attain their Black Belt in as little as three years; for others, it could take 4-6 years. Any school that gives you an exact time is not awarding Black Belts on competency or skill, but merely on a timed schedule. Please be aware that it is most important that you truly attain mastery of the lower techniques to the best of your ability. to be a good Black Belt.

  • To measure a student's level of technical expertise they must take gradings. A grading is a test that a student takes every 2-3 months (they must have at least attended 16 classes) if they pass the examination a different colour belt will be awarded to them. There are 10 stages before a student acquires a black belt status, the first being a white belt.

 Our Policies

  • Please use the bike racks provided outside to park your bicycle. Scooters and bicycles are not permitted on site as they are an obstruction and pose a fire risk.

    Please refrain from bringing large bags onto the matted area for safety reasons. However, please feel free to use the changing rooms and the bag shelves for your bags and personal property.

    We do not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property.

  • Respect is essential to us at The Taekwondo Academy, so please do not behave aggressively, violently, or in a threatening manner to any member or our staff.

    We consider any act of harassment, bullying or violence against our culture and values.

    We take all breaches of this policy seriously and it will result in the immediate termination of your membership.

  • Your monthly payment is for your membership. We do not operate on a pay-per-lesson basis. Your monthly payment entitles you to attend all lessons within that month. We are not responsible if you cannot attend, and we cannot allow you to attend further lessons without payment.

    If you will be unable to attend lessons for a while, we advise you to pause your membership as unattended lessons cannot be made up for.

  • The Taekwondo Academy offers a bespoke service for our members and any unauthorised personal training on or off-site or advertisement of your services/classes with our members is classified as a conflict of interest and will result in the termination of your membership.

  • You are welcome to take photographs and video recordings on the gym floor for your own personal use or records.

    Anybody who appears in your photographs or videos must be aware that you are filming them, so please ask their permission first.

    If a member of our team asks you to stop filming or taking photographs, please make sure you do so.

    Do not post photographs or videos you have taken at The Taekwondo Academy premises on any social media platform with identifiable members without first getting consent from all persons concerned that they are happy for their image to be on social media.

    No pictures of children can be posted online without parental consent.

    Breaches of these rules can result in the immediate termination of your membership.

  • Invitations to gradings are solely at the discretion of our instructors.

    This is based on:

    • Performance in lessons

    • Progress made since your last grading

    • The time since your last grading

    • Behaviour in classes (for children)

  • The only equipment allowed to be used in classes must be purchased from us. We are a small business and we ensure to provide you with the best equipment for training. If you bring equipment not purchased from us, you will not be allowed to use it during our lessons.

  • We allow no food or drinks on the mat, other than water. Please do not eat downstairs and if necessary, go upstairs and outside.

  • In order to keep classes operating smoothly, please ensure you get changed and leave the changing rooms as efficiently as you can. This allows the next class to come and prepare themselves. Remember, we are not a social club, and any longer discussions can be had when you leave.
